All students are required to complete their summer readings by the first day of class for the 09-10 School Year
Students will be assessed on the book/book(s) that they have chosen to read and it will count as their first TEST grade of the 1st 9 Weeks
The test given is worth 100 POINTS
Students in Honors or Pre-AP will read 3 books and students enrolled in Regular Sections of the courses will only be required to read 1 book over the summer
Students in taking Regular or Honors Economic and Government may choose to read books from either list - for example if in regular you can read your 1 required book from the Economics list or the Government list. In Honors you can read 2 from one list, and 1 from the other list or any combination that totals 3 books.

What list is the right list for my child/children?
Your child has already registered with their counselor for their social studies course for the 09-10 school year. If your child/children are enrolled in the regular course they should choose one book from the regular list. If they are enrolled in Honors or Pre-AP they should choose 3 books from the Honors or Pre-AP list.
My Child receives Special Education Services for their Social Studies Class are they required to read a book?
Yes, every student enrolled in a core Social Studies course is required to read a book(s). The adapted list is specifically made for students who are receiving special education services. They may choose a book from the adapted list or read a book from the regular list. It is their choice.
When did my child/children learn about this required reading?
This is the second year of the reading initiative. Students were made aware of and were given a paper version explaining the instructions and their specific reading lists during finals week of the 08-09 School Year. Students were also required to sign for their packet when they received it.
My family just moved into the district - is my son/daughter required to read a book for their class?
Yes, every student enrolled in a core Social Studies course is required to read a book(s). Please refer to this website for the reading lists and requirements
